Bob tells this story about a young boy who wanted to ask the love of his life to marry him. Here is what I love about this kid: He dreamed big. He asked Bob, a complete stranger at the time, if he could use his house to ask his girl to marry him because it was the perfect setting. But every time this young boy saw Bob, his requests to Bob got bigger and bigger. The strange thing is that Bob kept saying yes. Then to top it all off, Bob went ahead and did something BIGGER without even being asked. Buy the book to find out what he did. (No really- buy the book- I put up an Amazon link to make it easy for you.)
What I learned is that sometimes in life, you just have to ask.
So you all know I have this amazing friend Becky. If you don't know- read that sentence again and now you'll know too. She is amazing. She doesn't think she is amazing but let me just put it this way:
How many of you have a burning passion? Maybe you care about the poor. Or maybe you care about children or art.
How many of you have done something about that passion? (crickets...)
Becky actually sold everything she owned and moved to India to be with orphans and in a long story that I won't tell because its not mine to tell...she ended up adopting a small and sick child who she nursed back to health. He is now almost 5 years old, insanely funny and cheek pinching adorable. What would this world be like without him? We won't know because Becky saved him.
DAY #2 WRITE TO DISPATCH
So I want to rock the socks off of Becky. She LOVES the band Dispatch. She thinks I'm going to ask them for backstage passes and helped me attain the email address to one of the band members assistants. But I'm taking a hint here for Bob Goff and playing some bigger and better....
If I wrote on my blog my request then it wouldn't be a surprise for Becky.
I debated if I even wanted to tell ya'll I had something up my sleeve because again...I want this to be a surprise.
But I want to encourage all of you who are doing this with me to ask things from people. It never hurts and sometimes you get a YES.
So I wrote my letter....I'll send it off in a few...and I hope like mad that DISPATCH is as awesome as I hope they are and I pray like mad that they are more creative than me and take my request and say, "I have a better idea." (although I think my idea is pretty amazing. Don't you want to know!!!)
be bigger and better
do bigger and better.
That's awesome and I look forward to hearing how they respond.
