Arnold Arboretum

Today started with a couple fails-
I wanted to meet three new people at church.  Instead I talked to three (exactly three) people I already knew.  FAIL.  Then, we accepted an invitation to see the tall ships docked on the harbor for Fleet Week.  We reneged when we thought of the crowds, heat and nursing Anders fighting both of those at the same time.  FAIL.

Luke, Anders and I decided to use the beautiful day outside doing something we've talked about for a long time.   We drove downtown to check out the arboretum.  Finally- success.
Everyone talks about the arboretum assuming you've been there.  I'm always a little shy to tell them I don't exactly know what they are talking about.  I always do one of those one/two moves: smile and nod like you agree and then change the subject to some other Boston landmark you do know of like the Make Way for Duckling statue as if that were also romantic and the crown jewel of Boston (which it is neither.)

While the arboretum was stunning- it was hard to soak it all in.  I imagined it to be the perfect place to write and search for frogs.  Luke saw it as the perfect place to run.  Anders saw it as the perfect place to sleep and sleep is what he did.  Thus- we had to walk....and we had to keep walking because when you stop he knows and wakes up.  Its this weird baby thing.   And so in this heat we walked and saw no frogs, did no running, no mediation and no writing.  But we were together as a family, enjoying our day outside instead of inside.  On the way home we drove past the hospital where Anders Otis was born and we had a great time reflecting on the past four months.  They have been incredible.

Today was a great day.  While I didn't meet new people at church, I did get an invitation to hang with some moms during the week.  I'm glad we got an offer to go to Fleet Week and happier yet that our friends still love us even though we ditched out.  I am happy to finally visit the arboretum....it was beautiful and it meant we were outside together as a family.

  1. This made me laugh because when I was in college, people talked about an arboretum and I didn't know what they were talking about either. Glad you enjoyed it!
